About SERU Survey

The U of A is proud to join a global network of top research-intensive universities, including the University of Toronto, McGill and UC Berkeley, in the SERU Consortium. SERU administers standardized surveys across participating universities to better understand and benchmark the full graduate and undergraduate student experience.

Through this initiative, we’re committing to listening more deeply and understanding your journey — from the classroom and the lab to campus life and beyond.

Graduate Students: The gradSERU survey begins March 10. Take the survey and let your voice be heard.

Starting in March 2026, we invite graduate students to lead the way by participating in the U of A’s first gradSERU survey, followed by undergraduate students taking part in 2027 (undergradSERU).

The gradSERU survey is confidential and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It explores your graduate student experience in depth and reflects the unique opportunities and challenges you may encounter during your program.

We want to hear about

  • Research and mentorship: The quality of advising and your integration into the research community.
  • Program climate: Whether you feel supported, included and valued in your department. Professional development: How well your program is preparing you for your future career, whether in academia or industry.
  • Well-being: Your physical and mental health, financial support and considerations for degree completion.

Who should participate?

All graduate students.

Why participate?

Completing gradSERU is one of the most direct ways you can influence the future of your specific program and the broader U of A community, for your benefit and the success of future students.
