Indicate your availability for undergraduate research supervision via your Directory Profile

As of January 2025, the U of A Find a Person Directory has new Advanced Search features to help students more easily identify potential research supervisors according to their research interests and availability.

Faculty, staff, and others involved in undergraduate research project supervision are encouraged to update their directory profile as follows:

  1. Go to the Directory page and login with your CCID & password
  2. Select “Dashboard”
  3. Click “Edit Contact Card”
  4. Under “Research Students” click “edit”
  5. In the “Research Area” section, fill in 3-5 keywords describing your research interests. This field is searchable via the Advanced Search.
  6. Indicate (by checking the box) whether you are Accepting Undergraduate Research Students. This field is searchable via the Advanced Search. 
  7. Please briefly describe how you would like prospective undergraduate research students to apply (e.g. via campusBRIDGE, by email with their CV/Transcript, etc.) You may wish to include information about the specific opportunities you are accepting students for and/or what qualifications you are seeking from prospective undergraduate researchers. 
  8. Click Save

At any time, you can easily log back in to toggle off your availability for undergraduate research supervision, and your profile will no longer appear in search results filtered by availability.

As of May 2026, the URI Opportunity Board on campusBRIDGE has been retired. U of A researchers looking to recruit undergraduate students are encouraged to update their Find a Person Directory profile (instructions above). Paid jobs may also be posted to the Career Centre Student & Alumni job board.

Other ways to encourage students to participate in research

  • Circulate the opportunity within your department or faculty (e.g. via your undergraduate advisors)
  • Make an announcement in your class, or ask colleagues to announce the opportunity in their classes.
  • Attend events and participate in informal networking opportunities organized by student groups (e.g. “meet the prof” nights, student research mixers, panel discussions). 
  • Invite URI to visit your classes to introduce students to undergraduate research opportunities, funding and resources to support their research involvement.
