Course Material Access

Undergraduate students begin each term with access to their required course material for a flat fee each term. Students receive the latest versions, delivered primarily in a digital format (or in print when required). The program includes material requested through the U of A Bookstore, such as textbooks, literature, online publisher courseware, most lab manuals, coursepacks, and software applications. Not included are lab supplies, art and stationery supplies, chemistry lab manuals, uniforms, or other non-text items.

How to Access

To access course material:
1. Log in to canvas.ualberta.ca.
2. Navigate to Account > Course Material Access.
3. The My Materials page will open, containing your course material in various tabs.
To opt out (or back in):
1. Log in to the opt out/in portal (Follett).
2. Click the Opt Out button.
3. If applicable, return printed course material to a U of A Bookstore location.
4. If you change your mind, you can log back in by the deadline and select Opt In.

Hours of Operation
Course materials are automatically delivered to students at the start of each semester, with in-store support available during Bookstore operating hours.

What to Expect

  • If this is your first time signing in to Canvas or Follett, select Create an Account to set up your password. Your username is your U of A email address.
  • You must opt out (or back in) by the deadline near the start of each term for the fee to be waived from your student account.
  • If you miss the deadline to opt out, email cmaprogram@ualberta.ca.

Cost

Fees apply per term; see the webpage for more information. Students can opt out, and the fee is waived if none of a student's course material has an associated cost.

Instructors should request course materials by submitting a course material request by the applicable deadline each term.
