Minor Ailments Assessments and Prescriptions provide convenient access to care for common, non-urgent health concerns through trained pharmacists. Pharmacists can assess symptoms, recommend treatment, and prescribe medications for a wide range of minor conditions such as simple urinary tract infections, fungal infections, cold sores, dermatitis, conjunctivitis, allergies, minor sprains and strains, acne, menstrual pain, heartburn, and indigestion. In addition to treating minor ailments, pharmacists can prescribe birth control, renew ongoing prescriptions (with some exceptions), and transfer most prescriptions from any pharmacy in Canada. If you are unsure whether your condition is eligible, you can speak directly with a pharmacist by phone or by booking an appointment. The initial assessment is free with a valid Alberta Health Care card, and costs may apply only for prescribed medications, which are often partially or fully covered by private insurance plans.
