Mitacs Globalink Research
Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) & Award (GRA) Programs
The MITACS Globalink programs support research collaboration and international mobility by helping to fund the stays of talented international students with UAlberta researchers for short-term projects.
While Mitacs has various research scholarships for inbound and outbound researchers, only the inbound Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) program is directly overseen by University of Alberta International Student + Visitor Services (ISVS).
The information on our Mitacs Globalink webpages should be assumed to be specific to theMitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) program, as it is by far the largest program cohort of Mitacs-funded participants.
Please visit our Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) webpage for more information about that similarly-named program, which is different from GRI, as well as Mitacs Accelerate.
Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI)
The GRI program offers fully-funded placements for international senior undergraduate students from select universities to perform research in Canada for 12 weeks over the summer.
Student participants contribute to research projects supervised by University of Alberta faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines at campuses in Edmonton and Camrose.
Globalink Research Internship (GRI) participants receive funding support from Mitacs for:
- Flights to Canada
- Transportation from airport in Canada to accommodations
- Stipend for housing
- Health insurance
- Stipend for food and incidentals
More detailed information can be found on the Mitacs Globalink website.
Mitacs GRI professors and faculty members at the University of Alberta, along with our valued support colleagues, are welcome to review our Professors - Host an Intern webpage for more detailed information about facilitating the successful research stays of GRI interns.
Selected Mitacs GRI interns (international student participants) may find our Participant Resources webpage helpful for accessing links to various Mitacs GRI tools like the intern handbook, a pre-arrival timeline, immigration guidance, etc.
Important Dates provides an overview of the annual cycle of the Mitacs GRI program, including relevant application deadlines.
Prospective student applicants are welcome to review our Student Eligibility & Applications webpage, with the caveat that this information may not be the most current and is on our to-do's to update. The best source of information in this case is the Mitacs GRI website, linked elsewhere. Thank you!
